Reverend Jeffery Matthews, page down for Reverend Sellers:

These two ministers served our ACUMC from 1979 until 1990. Reverend Matthews served from 1979 until 1985, Reverend Sellers from 1985 until 1990.

Photo below:  Reverend Matthews, his wife Joyce, and Zachariah (center).

Reverend Matthews originally considered becoming a vocal music teacher. The Cuyahoga Falls high school graduate, who had grown up in a very church involved family, received a bachelor's degree in music from Oberlin college. He went on to earn a Masters of Divinity degree from Garret Evangelical Theological Seminary at Northwestern University in Evanston IL.

Pastor Matthews became the church choir director. Baritone Jeff Matthews and his alto wife, Joyce, became members of the Southeast Community Singers whose voices rang out frequently in our area.

"Apple Creek seems to be a more relaxed community than many others" says Pastor Matthews who followed Reverend David Martin as Pastor of Apple Creek United Methodist Church in July. "It's very important that people have traditionally gone to church here, often the same people from several generations to the same church".

Reverend Charles Sellers:

Reverend Sellers served our Apple Creek United Methodist Church from 1985 until 1990. He was followed by Reverend Dan Jenkins and Reverend Ron Hardman.

Dedication ceremony: A new Allen digital computer organ was dedicated in 1986, in memory of Ruth Howell, Carl Mower, John Hartel, I. Justin Westfall, Woodrow Meier and Doctor Edward Kahn during Sunday Worship services at Apple Creek United Methodist Church.

Gary DeVault, a long-time friend of Pastor Matthews served several years as organist, through several of our ACUMC ministers.
