This photo, below, was taken during Reverend Martin's term from 1975 until 1979.
I'm sure many of us will recognize several people sitting here.

Above: Mayvene Hartel, on right was the daughter of Reverend Spence (see next photo).
Names on the back of this photo are: Greta, Glendine, Thelma, Geib, Bessie, Jim Henry, Reverend Martin, Mayvene Hartel. Photo from Marianne. These photos and newspaper articles from Marianne are stored in our ACUMC office at this time.

Photo on right taken December 22nd 1943: Reverend Edward Spence 1933-43, Reverend Spence was Mayvene Hartel's father. Mayvene (upper right in previous photo) was a faithful member of our church from 1934, when she moved to Apple Creek from Wessinton, South Dakota.
Mayvene passed with her family at her side at age 94, November, 2012. Pastor Sam Troyer officiated at her funeral.

Reverend E. W. Spence was with Apple Creek United Church for the ten year period from 1933 until 1943. Reverend Spence and his wife transferred to Dalton's Presbyterian Church.  He originally came from Dunifries, Scotland in 1913. Sorry about the the photo at right, it's from an old newspaper article. Not the best but it's the best I have right now.

Photo below: This photo is from a 1968 newspaper and was saved by Marianne. The small print under the photo says: "The old Methodist Church in Apple Creek has served as a church, American Legion, and a school, was built in 1869. School officials, who are now using it as a store room want the building removed as they feel it is a fire hazard."

This building was located between our present Church and the Elementary School (two trailers are located there now, being used as classrooms). This building was razed in 1968. It had served as a Methodist Church. a combined Presbyterian / Methodist church, the Wilbur Welty post of the American Legion, and as a classroom for Apple Creek school's kindergarten and first grade. John Senff was the builder, Reverend Osmand Card  (Pastor from 1868 until 1869) was the Pastor while it was built. The cost of this building was $3,800.00. The church was dedicated on Christmas Day, 1869. Sorry the photo isn't better but it's 46 years old. These photos and newspaper articles from Marianne are stored in our ACUMC office at this time.

No date on the above photo, handwriting on back reads:  "Kitchen help at Barbara and Gordon's wedding. Left to right: Ruth Howell, Georgia Meier, Helen Biddle, Bessie Richeson, Mildred Dodez, Corrine Condrey Kelly. Photo from Marianne. These photos and newspaper articles from Marianne are stored in our ACUMC office at this time.

Handwriting on back of this photo: "Apparantly new (no shrubs ect.) 1888.
Note the muddy street, balcony, main entrance on northeast corner. We've had many steeples, I really like this steeple. Photo from Marianne. These photos and newspaper articles from Marianne are stored in our ACUMC office at this time.

Handwriting on reverse side: "After 1964 remodel".
Note shrubbery, Cross replaced the balcony above the windows, sign in front, different (smaller) steeple.  Main entrance still on northeast corner. Photo from Marianne. These photos and newspaper articles from Marianne are stored in our ACUMC office at this time.
